Lockout - Movie Review

I could easily imagine being in the same situation as the characters in this movie (thanks to some awesome editing) and I've concluded that I would have definitely been screaming a lot.  There's this one guy with one blind eye who really creeped me out (not because of his eye although it didn't help).  I'm surprised someone didn't shoot him early on.  I can only assume it was to keep the plot interesting.

Though a bit rough around the edges this movie is action-packed and thrilling; with tons of guns, explosions, and fight scenes.

Squirrel Drawing

Here are the finished squirrel drawings from before, one in color and the other not.  I went with more vibrant colors than seen in nature.  If you've read the Graceling books then you'll know where I got the idea from (in part at least).

Oh, Happy Easter!

My Aquarium Plans

As most of you know (or should know if you have looked at my other blogs) I have a planted 30 gallon aquarium.  However, it only has a gravel substrate instead of something more beneficial for plant growth.  This is because those substrates are kind of expensive especially for larger aquariums.  But, recently I've been looking online for a better alternative and came across dirt.  That's right, good old-fashioned organic dirt.

With this in mind I've been thinking about how to accomplish it.  Getting the dirt is easy but apparently it needs at least a week to settle (because the ammonia spikes) and it's safe to add fish.  In the mean time I have nowhere to put my 20-something fishes.  And then, I'm going to add more plants.

(This is my aquarium, that fish I focus on at first is an African Featherfin Catfish, named Jason)

Hamster Plays Dead

Too funny not to share!  He's too cute.

Cirque du Freak Books

I should have realized these books were meant for 10 year-olds.  All the signs were there I just didn't put it together.

Alas, it's too late to go back now, I'm curious to know what happens next and it seems unlikely that there will be a second movie.

Alive

I've been listening to this song all morning...I can't stop.  I would like to make it my new ring tone but can't seem to find it anywhere yet.  >_<

While roaming the Internet I found these two pictures, both unique in their own right.

On another note, I might be starting beekeeping lessons soon. That's if things work out.  I'm at a the point in life where you have so much going on yet so little. I guess that statement might be confusing to most but I don't know how else to explain it.

The Wolverine Trailer...

Major came changer here, my first thought was NOOOOOOOOOOO!  But this movie will be great.

Kitty

There is no actual reason for me writing this post other than to show you this adorable kitty picture that I found on Facebook.  So here it is...look at it!  Look!

Oh, and Perception returns on June 18th which is just two days after my birthday!  I wonder how I should spend it.  Usually, I just go out to dinner with family, see a movie, and come home to eat chocolate cake and ice cream.  Still, I would like to do something different this time.  Now that I think more about it last time I went to a wolf sanctuary which was great, but I felt that the wolves shouldn't be kept in such small enclosures.  They deserve more.

One day I would love to own my own wolf sanctuary, far away from the general populous where they can run for miles without worry of hunters.

Warm Bodies - Movie Review

I love this movie.  My eyes were glued to the screen the entire time.  And, while it's like the book for the first half or so it quickly diverges to something even better.  Warm Bodies is both funny and sweet.  I've fallen in love with the characters (especially R).

Before Warm Bodies my view on zombies was probably the same as most people's.  Zombies were gross rotting things and I couldn't understand who so many people could watch movies about these cannibals.  But even in an undead state people are just people.  Life (sorry if I sound like a hippie) was not meant to be lived  hating what we are or aren't.  Being different is not a bad thing.  After all who's normal, really?

Anyways, I would give this movie five out of five stars.  ^_^

Quick side not for those of you who think Warm Bodies is anything like Twilight - you're narrow-minded idiots who judge things before giving them a chance.

Also, there is a lot more action in the movie than I remember there being in the book which is awesome.

Squirrel Sketch

Originally I wanted to do a hybrid creature but ended up just sketching out a squirrel.  It's not finished yet.  I'm planning on coloring it in, possibly with pastels but maybe color pencils.

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

Cirque du Freak certainly isn't your typical vampire movie.  It's much more light-hearted than I'm use to and though it's a little corny at parts (mostly in the first half) I very much liked it.

While trying to find out if there was a second movie I realized that there is a whole series of books that are apparently way better than the movie was (aren't they always?).   So I'm looking forward to reading those.

Tai Chi Ramblings

It seems the more I practice the less I know when studying Tai Chi.  I think my main problem lies in the amount of time I put asside for it.  I only practice once a day.  What I should be doing is practicing whenever I have free time.  Still, I have never been a very motivated person.  Obviously I can accomplish whatever I set my mind to, I'm just not very consistent about it.  I'm too easily bored (and a little bit lazy).  I suppose that's why people have trainers when doing things like this.

Pathfinder - Movie Review

There was so much violence in this movie.  Hundreds got chopped to bits.  As I've stated who knows how many times over that is the one thing which truly freaks me out, but surprisingly not in this case.  As horrible as it was the storyline was pretty good and I really cared about the characters.  That said, I really doubt that there were German Shepherds and Arabians (type of horse) in this time period.  Anyways, I can't say much else without giving away the plot and I despise spoilers.

Tai Chi Update - Beginning Again

Practiced Tai Chi today after who knows how long.  I'm so stiff and my left leg jiggles when I put weight on it.  However, I am doing much better at memorizing the steps than before.

I really missed it, honestly I don't know why I stopped in the first place.

It's amazing how that a simple thing can have such a positive effect.

Wolf Cub Sketch

Don't think I'm going to be doing much else on this drawing, maybe a few touch-ups here and there.

Wolf Cub Drawing/Sketch

Started to sketch out a wolf cub.  I'm trying to make it more realistic rather than a manga/anime look.  I'm not entirely happy with how it's going so far so I've decided to finish it another time.

Movie Review - Upside Down

It took me almost half the movie to get over the twin gravity issues but in the end I really enjoyed watching Upside Down.  The scenery alone is beautiful.

Sometimes I wonder how people can be so intolerant of minor details that mean almost nothing in the grand scheme of things.  I suppose I'll never know.

Movie Review - Jack Reacher

I admit, I took my time getting around to watching this movie and though I can say I don't regret watching it I wouldn't say Jack Reacher stands out in any particular way.  Lots of action and a fair amount of humor make it worth watching but you're never surprised by anything either.  My favorite bit was shown in the trailer too.  I hate it when that happens.

At one part some guy chewed off his own fingers and as I've said before that stuff really freaks me out so I looked away and covered my ears.  Unfortunately, with my active imagination the way it is I will still be haunted for weeks if  not months to come.

Pocahontas

Anyone else remember this song?  It was one of my favorites when I was little and still is.

The Road to Your Heart

Manga Update

  • Owari no Seraph
    • Some bits are more realistic than others, but this could be a good manga.
  • Terra Formars
    • Nothing good happens to the characters in this manga, like the movie Predator they pretty much all die horrible deaths but for some reason you keep reading and hope for the best.

  • Adventure of Sinbad
    • Interesting so far, if a bit childish.

Movie Review - Oz the Great and Powerful

This is the best movie I've seen all year.  Unlike most movies out there that leave you feeling underwhelmed Oz does just the opposite.  The music was great too, with a definite steampunk air to it.  This is a movie you will not  soon forget.

If you haven't seen the original Wizard of Oz you should before you watch this movie.  They are very similar and you wont get all of little similarities.  Also, if your seeing this in theaters, don't sit near the speakers, Theadora's voice is piercing when she screams (and she screams quite a bit).

I shall be not so patiently waiting for the sequel (before you ask, Dorothy won't be in it).

New Manga - Cleta

There haven't been a whole lot of new manga that I'm actually interested lately, but Cleta shows some promise.

Though it's a bit confusing, going back and forth in history it seems to be about two young men (both orphans  in World War 3.  I can't tell you much else, I've only read the first chapter but it's pretty good so far.

Update - Henry's sketch

Still working on Henry's sketch, just a few minutes here and there.  It doesn't help that I've lost yet another eraser, I could use it of the fine details but oh well.

Movie Talk

There are so many good movies out there that I've never seen or heard of before.  Outlander is one such movie that I recently stumbled across.

Though this movie is predictable it does not disappoint and easily manages to keep you glued to your screen from start to finish.

New Iron Man Trailer

This movie just went way up in the list of movies I want to watch.

Possible "New" Series

Recently I watched part one of XIII: The Conspiracy and found it to be in-depth and not too bad, a bit long winded but you can't have everything.  I would say it is a mixture of Black Cat and the Bourne Trilogy.

The series that goes along with the movie started in 2011 so it's not that new, but if you like either Black Cat or the Bourne films then you'll like this.
